Temporary Works: The key for a variety of sectors
Temporary works can have a crucial role to play in a variety of projects, from civil infrastructure to transport. Interested in learning more about the key sectors we’re able to support? Read on….

The Irish construction industry is bracing for the increased demand expected this year, with some estimates predicting a 4% growth in construction output. This comes on the back of a new €18.8 billion public sector capital programme, as well as the Irish Government naming a number of major projects it is looking to progress this year, encouraging a focus on readiness across all sectors.
So, where does temporary works factor into this?
Building
From housing and schools to hospitals and offices, we’ve played a part in building some of the most complex and demanding projects around the world. Whether it’s an entirely new development or demolition and refurbishment, we’re able to offer solutions that work for you.
Propping and shoring can be crucial for projects in the building sector, where large structures, high loads and complex phases of work are the norm. Our Mass series of propping products have been carefully developed specifically for building refurbishments, with the ability to connect in any configuration, making them ideal for propping, needling and façade retention – all crucial parts of the building sector. By combining this with our hydraulic expertise, we’re able to engineer the safest and most efficient building restraints, ensuring all loads are accommodated and the customer is given ultimate confidence.
Paired with this, no matter what the building, monitoring should always be considered, especially in the context of busy urban sites. Able to measure the impact of your works on the environment and neighbouring buildings or provide live updates on the condition and behaviour of the structure, monitoring can form a pivotal part of maintaining a compliant site.
Infrastructure
Civil infrastructure accounts for some of the most essential structures in construction, including water, power lines and the energy network. That makes works in this sector crucial to maintaining a high standard of living, calling for an expert temporary works specialist backed up by engineering experience.
For many of these projects, groundworks are a crucial part of achieving a successful outcome. Whether it’s a large basement excavation or creating trenches for utilities, digging down will always be required and so too will be ground support. For this we offer a wide portfolio of groundwork solutions, ranging from our smaller modular lightweight MAP boxes (ideal for working around pipes and wires) to the much larger bracing frames, all of which allow us to support an excavation of any size.
In addition to this, projects within the power and energy sector can often be located in extremely remote areas of the country or the works may disrupt existing transport links. In these scenarios, site access solutions such as ground protection mats or temporary bridges can be crucial. These can divert vehicular or pedestrian traffic through additional routes, provide safe site access for heavy plant and construction traffic, and protect the ground from damage.
Transport
The transport sector is one of great importance for Ireland this year, with the DART+ programme, MetroLink and other major road projects all confirmed under the National Development Plan. Temporary works again has a role to play here.
Propping and hydraulic jacking in particular can be useful for transport projects. For example, when working on a new rail or road bridge, propping can be used to help lift and stabilise a bridge deck or support the stability of a build during works. Additionally, when undertaking planned maintenance propping can also allow the structure to remain open, preventing costly and lengthy delays.
Incorporating hydraulics into these designs can provide further engineering, efficiency and confidence benefits to a customer. Having a wide range of jacks available with high precision control systems and precision instrumentation allows us to provide a solution for the most complex hydraulic challenges. From mitigation monitoring and control, hydraulic movement, bearing replacement, bridge sliding to bridge launching; our experience and capability with hydraulics allows us to support and move large structures, like bridges, in almost any scenario.
With a wide range of construction projects expected to commence throughout 2026, temporary works will play a critical role for many contractors. By partnering with an experienced provider like MH International, with decades of engineering expertise, you can guarantee the safe, efficient and successful delivery of your projects.
